IBM Rational services.

DOORS, DOORS Next, Rational Team Concert (Jazz), ClearCase, ClearQuest, Rational Software Architect. We help teams that have to stay on Rational get more out of it — and teams that want to leave plan the exit without losing the audit trail that put them on Rational in the first place.

Tools covered
  • DOORS / DOORS Next
  • RTC / Jazz Team Server
  • ClearCase, ClearQuest
  • Rational Software Architect
What we know

Rational tooling, used in earnest.

Rational tools are still the requirements and ALM backbone in defence, aerospace, automotive, and regulated engineering. DOORS and DOORS Next for requirements, Rational Team Concert for work and SCM, ClearCase and ClearQuest where they're still hanging on, Rational Software Architect for modelling. They didn't become uncool by accident — they became uncool because they're unforgiving and the licensing is brutal.

We help teams stay if staying is the right call — and leave cleanly if leaving is. Either way, the audit trail that put you on Rational in the first place is what we work hardest to preserve. Regulators don't care that you switched tools; they care that the traceability still holds.

Capabilities

DOORS and DOORS Next

  • Classic DOORS module structure, links, and DXL hygiene
  • DOORS Next (DNG) configuration management and streams
  • Requirements engineering for regulated programmes
  • DOORS → DOORS Next migration with traceability preserved

Rational Team Concert / Jazz

  • RTC work item, plan, and SCM administration
  • Jazz Team Server backups, upgrades, and capacity planning
  • Build engine integration, BuildForge legacy support
  • RTC → Git plus Jira / Azure DevOps exit plans

ClearCase and ClearQuest

  • ClearCase UCM and base ClearCase repo rescue
  • ClearQuest schema work and stateful workflow migration
  • Honest "keep vs leave" assessments — most teams should leave
  • ClearCase → Git migration with history preserved where it matters

Rational Software Architect

  • UML model rescue and conversion to modern modelling tools
  • Java code generation pipelines and round-trip workflows
  • RSA → PlantUML / Structurizr / C4 modelling migration
  • Asset preservation for regulated artefact retention

Migration paths

  • DOORS → DOORS Next, or DOORS → Polarion / Jama / codeBeamer
  • RTC → Git + Jira or Git + Azure DevOps Boards
  • ClearCase → Git (with cc2git or scripted history conversion)
  • ClearQuest → Jira / Azure DevOps with workflow modelling
When teams call us

Familiar situations.

  • The Rational stack is the audit trail for a regulated programme and you can't just walk away from it — but the licence costs are no longer defensible.
  • DOORS Next is stood up but the team is still using classic DOORS modules. Nobody wants to break the link traceability that took years to build.
  • ClearCase is hanging on because two teams refuse to migrate. You'd like a realistic plan that doesn't end in an all-hands escalation.
  • Jazz Team Server hasn't been upgraded in years and is becoming a single point of fragility — backups exist but recovery has never been tested.
  • You need to retire Rational entirely, keep the regulator happy, and end up on tooling the engineers actually want to use.
